The RE-ASSIGN project brings together the expertise of five applied research partners and seven associate partners.

Certech

Certech is a research & development partner and supplier of analytical and technological services for companies involved in activities related to the chemical sector, particularly in the fields of environment, polymer materials, and processes. Certech’s mission is to provide innovative solutions for the improvement or development of products and processes, in line with the principles of sustainable chemistry and circular economy, in order to meet industrial and societal needs. As partner within the cross-border RE-ASSIGN project (REcycling plAStics deSIGN), Certech is working on the optimization of recycling processes and the formulation of compounds integrating the maximum content of recycled materials allowing to achieve the targeted specifications.

The development of state-of-the-art characterization methods for recycled plastics will help to address critical issues related to :

  • Legacy additives
  • Substances of concern
  • Degradation products
  • Presence of NIAS (non-intentionally added substances)
  • Presence of odor and VOC (volatile organic compounds) emissions

CTP

As part of the RE-ASSIGN project, CTP is leveraging its expertise in mineral processing techniques to improve plastic recycling.

Key contributions:

  • Purification of plastic waste streams: crushing, pelletizing, removal of contaminants (metals, mineral particles, heterogeneous plastics)
  • Adaptation to industrial processes: compatibility with partner’s equipment (e.g. extrusion)
  • Sampling and characterization: developing methods to maximize material reuse

The project focuses on industrial plastic waste flows in the cross-border region, with the aim of identifying practical solutions for the optimal recovery and reuse of recycled plastics.

Centexbel – VKC

As part of the cross-border RE-ASSIGN project, Centexbel-VKC plays a key role in supporting companies across the Interreg France-Wallonie-Vlaanderen region in their transition towards a more sustainable and circular plastics economy. Its mission is to help companies integrate recycled materials into their end products in a smart and compliant way.

Its support covers a wide range of services:

  • Selecting the most suitable recyclates based on target product properties.
  • Providing assistance with product design and performance evaluation.
  • Supporting the search for reliable recyclate suppliers.
  • Guiding companies through the certification process of recycled content in accordance with new EU legislation on sustainability declarations.

In collaboration with the project partners, Centexbel-VKC contributes to applied research on pre-treatment, sampling methods, and recycling technologies—including mechanical, chemical, and physico-chemical recycling—to ensure the consistent quality of recycled materials.

Crepim

CREPIM is a private laboratory specializing in the development, testing and certification of fire-resistant materials, recognized in Europe and internationally. Its expertise covers thermoplastics, thermosets, composites and textiles, with particular know-how in the integration of recycled materials. Equipped with plastics processing resources (extrusion, injection, 3D printing), advanced analysis and fire testing, CREPIM supports the transport, construction and electronics sectors. With 20 years of experience in European collaborative projects, the laboratory puts its industrial network at the service of the RE-ASSIGN project to disseminate and promote its results.

IMT Nord Europe

IMT Nord Europe – and more specifically its CERI Materials and Processes Center– is working on the implementation of new processes from laboratory scale to pilot scale for the development of new materials with optimised structural and functional performance.

IMT Nord Europe’s contribution to the RE-ASSIGN project focuses on the development and shaping of recycled thermoplastic polymers and composites using plastics processing technologies (injection, extrusion, thermoforming, foaming, additive manufacturing), as well as their characterisation. Particular emphasis is placed on the development of sampling techniques that provide a representative picture of the deposits and analyse their variability over time. Finally, CERI MP participates, together with all the project partners, in communication, dissemination, promotion and transfer of results to companies in the Interreg France-Wallonia-Flanders zone.
